Wayfinding Signs

Wayfinding and information signs are used to direct people to a certain place and encourage the flow of movement in a particular direction. Way-finding signs also ensure that members of the public can easily locate target areas. In addition, these signs serve as a warning about hazardous areas or health and safety concerns.

We design, fabricate and install all types of wayfinding signs. Give us a call today, pop into your closest branch or send us a message.

Directional Signage

BENEFITS AND PLACEMENT

Wayfinding signage is what gets your customers to their destination. It is used to guide customers along a specific path, (predefined by you) and allows visitors to find their way around a site without asking.

Well designed, colour coded,  navigational signage aids the visitor experience. Whether the sign is a simple, digitally printed, Corflute board, a floor sticker or an interactive digital touch screen display, they all have the same purpose. To show your clients where they are, lead them to where they need to be, identify areas of interest or advise which rules need to be followed in the space.

Wayfinding signs are found in many settings including grocery stores, university campuses, hospitals and exhibition complexes. It also forms part of almost every health and safety plan, warning of hazards and directing people in case of emergencies.

Types of Wayfinding Signs

Directional Signage

Directional Signage, also known as navigational signage helps your customers get from A to B, often directing them via a preferred route. They are best placed in areas where people gather or at intersections where decisions need to be made.

Orientational Signage

Orientational signs or informational signs show customers, clearly and simply where they are on a site in relation to other buildings, stores or exhibits. These signs can be free-standing, wall-mounted or even digital and interactive. They can convey where you are on a map and lead you to your destination.

Identification Signage

Identification signage comes in many forms such as store fascia signage, pylon signage or footpath signage. It identifies your store or business and should be designed to promote your brand image and get you noticed.

Regulatory Signage

Regulatory signs and warning signs inform users how to use business or public spaces. They convey the rules of premises, outlining meeting areas, and health and safety requirements. Regulatory signs come in the form of traffic signs, danger signs, staff only signs and keep out signs.

Wayfinding Principles

Clarity and Colour

Navigational signage needs to be clear and readable from various heights and distances. In addition, it should also be visible to traffic coming from all directions. Keep text clear and choose a bold sans serif font.  Colour can be used effectively to compartmentalize areas or even differentiate between multiple languages.

Universal Language

Signs often need to be understood by various nationalities. For this reason, universal icons and imagery are frequently used in wayfinding signage. Especially on sites such as airports, museums or tourist areas where language can be a barrier.

To keep signs simple and user-friendly, limit choice where possible and only show elements that are absolutely necessary.

Lighting

Wayfinding signs need to be well lit. If general lighting within the premises is not sufficient,  spotlighting or even Illuminated signage can be used. The lighting must, however, be practical and subtle, and should not detract from the purpose of the sign.

We have experience in creating and installing many wayfinding options. Let us help you choose the right combination of informational signage for your site that will do the job and look great at the same time.
